Re: ESSA Parent Notification
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) ensures that as a parent of a student at Winona, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This notice is to inform you that all classroom educators at Winona Elementary School meet or exceed state teacher qualification requirements for the grades and subjects that they teach, and hold an active CO teaching license.
Federal law also allows you to request additional information about your student’s classroom teachers, such as:
-
The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
-
Whether any teachers’ aides or similar para-educators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.
The Colorado Department of Education’s Public Educator Lookup system also allows families to look up an educator's credential (license) information online. Visitors to this website can see if an educator has an active credential, a past credential, or if a credential was denied, suspended, revoked or annulled. You can visit CDE’s Lookup System at https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/educatorcredentialsearch.
Sincerely,
Director of State and Federal Programs
